IT companies are hooking up like divorcees at a Vegas wedding chapel

The ZapThink guys have it right that this is only the second inning (given the weather, it can’t be too soon for baseball metaphors) of a nine-inning outing of SOA components and supplier consolidation.

SOA Software Offers Free Trial of Registry Product

“Runtime discovery is a cornerstone of SOA,” said Jason Bloomberg, Senior Analyst at ZapThink LLC. “Other UDDI registry vendors typically focus on design-time discovery and governance issues, assisting developers in finding the appropriate Services for their projects. SOA Software, however, sets itself apart from the pack with its focus on runtime discovery as part of its overall SOA management and SOA enablement product suite. SOA Software thus lives up to its new name, providing the full gamut of runtime SOA enablement capabilities in its offerings.”

Oracle Buys Oblix to Secure Web Services

ZapThink analyst Jason Bloomberg said Oblix was a solid company because of its ID and Web services management, which it picked up from its acquisition of Confluent Software a year ago. But Oblix never gained on companies like SOA Software and AmberPoint in the Web services management space.

Now Bloomberg is curious if Oracle will use Oblix to flesh out its service-oriented architecture (SOA) (define) line.

“This move by Oracle begs the question: was there something wrong with Oblix’ WSM capabilities, or does Oracle not understand how vital WSM is in an overall SOA product strategy?” Bloomberg said. “The jury is still out on whether Oracle can truly put together a coherent SOA strategy that will be competitive with the likes of IBM, BEA Systems and Microsoft.”

SOA Software Extends Its SOA Product Suite, Acquires ThoughtDigital

“SOA Software continues to demonstrate its commitment to SOA infrastructure solutions,” said Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst at ZapThink LLC. “The addition of reliable message technology rounds out SOA Software’s fabric approach, and makes SOA Software a one-stop shop for companies looking for a managed, secure, and event-driven SOA infrastructure solution.”

SOA Software gains messaging technology

An analyst said the acquisition is indicative of consolidation of multiple technologies.

“Specifically, the areas of management, security, registries, and aspects of event-driven integration are increasingly being asked for as a consolidated package by customers,” said Ronald Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink, in an e-mail response to questions. “As SOA Software seeks to increase their visibility and brand in SOA [service-oriented architecture], they will likely have to be the acquirers in order to prevent themselves from being consolidated from the market.”

SOA Software Snaps Up Web Services Concern

ZapThink analyst Jason Bloomberg said the deal makes SOA Software that much stronger and puts it into collision with new rivals, such as enterprise service bus (ESB) specialist Sonic Software, which also recently improved its SOA suite.

“ZapThink sees this news as part of the maturation of the transitional Web services management market, since enterprises are now realizing that management is only a piece of the SOA puzzle,” Bloomberg said. “SOA Software is now offering a broader spectrum of the infrastructure capabilities that companies need to run their SOA implementations.”

SOA Software Acquires Reliable Messaging Company

Jason Bloomberg, an analyst with ZapThink LLC, of Waltham, Mass., said, “SOA Software already offered management, security and UDDI capabilities. By adding reliable messaging, they now have a complete SOA fabric offering, similar to, say, Blue Titan.

“This acquisition moves SOA Software more into competition with ESB [enterprise service bus] vendors like Sonic Software. ZapThink sees this news as part of the maturation of the transitional Web Services Management market, since enterprises are now realizing that management is only a piece of the SOA puzzle.
