Real IRM, a local enterprise architecture consultancy, and US-based ZapThink, a global services-oriented advisory and analysis firm, are to host a services-oriented architecture (SOA) boot camp in SA next month.
The two companies will host the four-day boot camps in Johannesburg and Cape Town, starting on November 10 and 17 respectively.
The SOA boot camps are held on an ongoing basis around the world: the local boot camps will follow on similar events in Mumbai, Melbourne and Dubai, with the next camp after SA planned for Washington DC.
“SOA is clearly returning significant and tangible benefits to those who know how to implement the architectural approach properly,” says Paul van der Merwe, consulting manager at Real IRM. “Saying that you know how to do SOA is simply not enough. Smart organisations want to know what specific skills, capabilities and credentials you have as a qualified architect. The ZapThink boot camp will give you just that.”
Attendees who complete the course, including all exercises, are certified as Licensed ZapThink Architects (LZAs). There are three levels of ZapThink Architect: LZA, Senior Licensed ZapThink Architect and Licensed ZapThink Architect Fellow (Trainer).
“The boot camp gives people a chance to be exposed to some of the world’s best SOA training without a technology or vendor bias,” says Van der Merwe. “It is also important to note that ZapThink is aligned with The Open Group, the global organisation which gives effect to standards, and is helping to set global standards for SOA.”
Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst and principal at ZapThink, will lead the SA boot camps. He is a widely published author on Web services and services-oriented computing, and will present on the state of SOA, and what organisations should be doing about it.
