Thanks for posting! First, I've uploaded the missing graphic -- thanks for pointing that out. But more importantly, this ZapFlash is largely out of date. Please see some of our newer content, including more recent thinking from Ron on the notion of granularity.

Where's the matrix?
Ron, I'm quite old now and have been doing SOA since before the term was coined. 1 of the things that frustrates me is the language that has grown up around it that obfuscates the subject. It shrouds the subject in a pseudo academic fug that only serves to stroke the ego of those involved and alienate the business community.
I have read and reread this article, and do you know what... it carefully avoids saying anything substantive or helpful - just the normal fug of SOA pseudo science. Where is the Matrix in the title? Where are some realife examples? SOA is failing to deliver on its promise BECAUSE it's been productised by software vendors and fugged up by consulting gurus. IT departments have hub based ESBs leading them to EAI type behaviours; junior programmers are piously trotting out pseudo academic claptrap of granularity composability, orchestration.. La la la- thinking they're clever and doing SOA when no one is talking to grey haired business folk about what it is their business is and modeling it, in long lasting interfaces. Now stop adding to the fug and help with some practical examples and tune down the language it does you a disservice.
