“BEA is on the ball with regards to SOA,” says Jason Bloomberg, a senior analyst at ZapThink. “BEA has identified a key pain point for enterprises who have built out intranets and turned them into portals, and for large organizations who have several portals run by different groups.”
Bloomberg says that BEA’s greatest strength is its greatest weakness. “They have a platform view on solving IT issues,” he said. “And although their core WebLogic platform is probably the best platform out there, their view is that SOAs are great as long as they’re built on BEA is a problem.” From an enterprise perspective, the SOA value proposition is that you don’t have to pick a single vendor, says Bloomberg. “BEA is more focused on their platform than the other big players, who are trying to build heterogeneous ecosystems. This will be the challenge for BEA.”
